I have some Bramletts in my family on my mom's side from Mississippi. I ran into that wall as well. My mom's paternal grandmother was Willie Bell Bramlett, she was born in 1888 and married William Toms. They then moved to Arkansas. But I can't find any other information on Willie Bell's parents, as they were probably slaves. I am 1 day new to this site so I have some discovery to do on how to navigate. But I hope this might help some. If you have any info to share hit me back.

Peace & Blessings,

Hello again,

I found a family of Bramletts living in Coahoma Mississippi in 1930. (That is also where Clarksdale Mississippi is situated.) Do you have the names of other siblings?

In the household were:

Harry Bramlett (Head)

Mary Bramlett (wife)

Ernest Bramlett (son)

Princella Bramlett (daughter)

Recie Bramlett (daughter)

Charley Bramlett (son)

Alfred Bramlett (son)

I hope this is helpful.

Are you just beginning the genealogy process?

If so, take a look at the beginners online guide on AfriGeneas.com

Also post your query of the forum over there as well.

What kind of documents do you have already? You should be able to trace the history of this family fairly easily as you already have some names. You can begin with the 1930 census. Although you said your relative was born in 1936, his parents would have been living in 1930 so you should be able to find some info on them in the census records.

Good luck to you.

I am continually hitting a dead end with researching my mother's father's family. His name is M.C. Bramlett, he was born in 1936 in Clarksdale, MS. The problem I'm having is that he was the product of an affair. His mom was married, her name was either Annie Williams or Brown (not sure which is married and which is maiden). The father's name was either Joe David or David Joe Bramlett. She gave my grandpa this guy's last name and raised him. I also know that her parents were sharecroppers, and I'm pretty sure that she and her husband were, too. I know that M.C. had half-siblings, at least one sister, Annie, that I know of. Eventually he, and then his family moved from Clarksdale, MS to the Indianapolis, IN area. He eventually joined the air force, moved to Europe and never came back again, dying in Germany in 2001. I know very little about his family, because he never spoke of them, and I have only talked to him twice in my entire life. I know this is uncomfortable, but if anyone can tell me anything about the Bramletts in Clarksdale, MS, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Jade
