Hello,

You did not indicate when Anderson L Chavis lived in NC. There was an Anderson Chavis living in Oxford Township in 1860 in Gransville County NC. He is listed as a mulatto indicating he was a free person of color.

He had a wife Harriet, listed as a black woman, in the household with him.

Close by there was another black family of Chavis also.

Although I have not yet began to trace my father's family, They are Kelly's from North Carolina. My Grandfather was Royal Kelly from North Carolina he married Inez Bynum. I have a little of the Kelly history on Ancestry.

I have reached an impass in my family research. My mother's great grandfather was Anderson Ly Chavis from Granville County, NC (he is believed to be full blood Cherokee or 1/2 Cherokee) and I have not been able to find anymore information on him other than his name and that his wife is believed to have been a white woman. On my fathers side I am searching for information on my great grandmother Annie Kelly born in 1894 in Henderson, Vance County, NC. Any information on them or advice in finding further information would be greatly appreciated.
