Since I was a young girl, I've known that my family came from Danville, Va. We were told that our g-g-grandfather was Black, White(Irish), and Native American. We were also told that he was a slave. The offspring of a slave women and her white owner, a man named Carter. This was all the info that the family had about him. A few years ago, through a another branch of the Carter family(my gggranduncle) I found out that my ggggrandmother the slave woman, was named Jane. She was Jane Carter before emancipation, and Jane Carter Davis after. This is all I have been able to find out about this foremother of mine. Through my reseaching I found another branch of this Carter family. I found descendants from one of Jane's daughter, who was also trying to find out about Jane. There were many Carter plantations in and around Danville, Tunstill, Cascade, Chatham, and Whitmell Va. Since I don't live in this area it is hard getting info. I have come to that brick wall that I have read other researchers talk about. Through the other branches I have gotten a copy of my gggrandparents marriage license. Through this I have also learned the names of my other ggggrandmother & father. I'm looking for anything that will help me further my search, such as wills, family bibles from the following families: Carter, Davis, Adams, Breedlove, Price. I have seen these names on other documents, but cannot connect them to my family. Is there anyone out there doing research in this part of the world? I really need the help. Thanks
