Filed 14th August 1857

District of Columbia
County of Washington, to wit:

On this fourteenth day of August A. D. 1857 personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for the County aforesaid Margaret M. Bangs and made oath in due form of law and saith: that she knew John Wesley Lee, a colored man, for about twenty two years or since his birth, and that he was born free, and had been free up to this date.

Given under my hand and seal this fourteenth day of August 1857.
